FO: Golden Salor Socks

Golden Salor Stack

I finished these Sunshiney Beauties about a month ago... but only recently got around to photographing them.  The warm golden yellow was just perfect at the time I think... to bring a little brightness into my day.

The Pattern:  Salor by Hunter Hammersen (From the great new book Silk Road Socks!  Please, Please, Please, pick up a copy!  It's a great book full of great patterns!)

I really enjoyed these socks!  Especially that they were complex enough to be captivating and interesting, but not so much that I couldn't memorize them and work on them while travelling around with family.  I particularly love the heels - those twisty little cables are very elegant looking!

The only modification I made really, was to extend the pattern all of the way down the foot.  I didn't do it on purpose!  I was away from home at the time, and I just kept knitting until I was 3 inches from the toe (like you do with many other patterns) and didn't realize I was supposed to stop.  Oh well, I hope Hunter will forgive me - I just added more of a good thing... mmmkay?

Golden Salor Side by Side

I'm definitely adding that heel to my repertoire... and maybe the tops as well... hmmm I sense a hybrid plain / Salor sock coming on... :)

Also, the Knit Picks Stroll Tonal was wonderful to work with.  As always.  I think I have every color they make it in now...

WIP Wednesday: Sailing along with Salor

 salor first

I'm making pretty good progress on my Salor Socks... even thought he photos show a half completed sock, I have finished the whole first one and have the second well underway.  I'm enjoying the way that the cable columns are working up, and especially in love with the heel - Those horseshoe cables are so geometric!  The regular twists create such a concise rope feeling... I think I'd like to do some socks with columns of just these the whole way up the toe and from the heel straight on up too!

The gold yarn is bright and cheery, and also easy to see in the evening hours (which is good, because I hear other people in the KAL are finding their darker colors a little harder to see... ahem*Kim*cough)  I've mostly just been picking these up for a row or two at a time this week, with all of the running around, and being exhausted, I just don't have the brain power.

I hear JB is trucking along on her Salors as well... which are in a lovely green shade!

ruttiger disapproves

I think Ruttiger even knows it's Friday today... he was giving me the "stink-eye" about leaving for work today.  It was the "I know, I know, you're LEAVING again... and I'm going to be hanging out here by MYSELF alllll day... hmph! At least the Kibbles are good.  Mphmhmhmmmm, kibbles are always tasty..."  He is a cute little fluffernutter though... always cute!  his coat is growing in wonderfully too after the pre-Christmas shedding. I wish I could bury my face in that soft fluff right now.

Kim and I had our Salor KAL delayed by a few days (curse you stupid storm!) so we are hoping to cast on tomorrow morning!  It's not too late?!  you can totally cast on with us!   Hint Hint, nudge nudge!  Just let me know how you're progressing and we can all work together :)

Happy Friday!
