Ive been participating off and on in a couple of sock knitting groups on Ravelry for a few years, but recently have dusted off my competitive spirit and Im trying to jump back in with both feet :)
For the Month of April
Im planning a double dip for prizes by doing the SolidSocks Mystery sock, which also counts towards the Sock Knitters Anonymous April knit because the pattern is named after a literary character (a perequisite for that groups April Sock)
The pattern is: Cheery Littlebottom by Allison Isaac
The name Cheery Littlebottom comes from the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchet
which I havent read yet, but have been thinking about trying. So this may be the inspiration I needed to kick things into high gear!
Clue number one is up
and it looks like there will be cables in them :) toes up, and cables! My plan is to use the skein of Cocoa Kiss Dream in Color Starry that has been waiting patiently in the stash. I wound the skein into a ball this morning while Romy napped, and hopefully will cast on tonight or tomorrow. With these mystery Knit alongs there is a clue released each week, so I hope that I can keep up and do the required portion each week and finish when the rest of the KAL group does. Its kind of weird choosing yarn while not knowing what the socks will be like, but I hope I chose ok :)
The socks can be cast on any time after April 1
and must be completed before the last day of April :) Wish me Luck!

I gave in to a weak moment last week and ordered some pretty new sock yarns. I wasnt going to do that again before the baby arrives, just in case I dont have time to knit much over the next little bit. These were just too pretty to resist though:

This is Dream in Color Starry (Sorry for the link absence
their site is under construction)
which has little sparkly strands of silver incorporated right into the yarn
resulting in a shimmery sparkly yarn. Im not sure just how sparkly it looks knit up, but Ive liked the way other peoples projects looked. Lately I have a thing for neutrals and browns. I might end up doing a pair of Cookie A. Socks with this or maybe some Hunter Hammersen Socks
hmmm so many great choices!
And This is String Theorys Caper Sock
a bouncy, deeply jewel colored, Cashmere Merino Blend. I tried to capture the gentle sheen and depth of shade
and this is the closest I can get. This is really really garnet colored yarn. Its soft, squishy, and I love it to pieces. This will need to become a shawl for me. Not for anybody else
but to be wrapped around my shoulders and neck. Now I just need to decide
which Romi Hill Pattern will it be :)

I have wanted to try this yarn for a while now... and I finally gave in! Here it is in all it's glory... and this stuff is definitely as "Smooshy" as the title says :) I can see why everyone makes such a fuss over this yarn, the colors are so vivid they just seem to jump off of the skein. Although with the shipping this is a little pricey, I can see why people choose to use it for projects like sweaters and shawls... I can't imagine making something from this and then covering it up completely. I'm sure it will make great socks, but that mossy green is so rich and true that I think it will need to be the centerpiece of an outfit all on it's own. Top: Shiny Moss. Bottom: Ruby River
