Yarn Candy Monday... Roo?

9. May 2011 10:06 by Jobo | 0 Comments

Things have been quite busy at the Jobo-Palace... and there haven't been any new yarns walking into the studio in the last week or so... but there have been some great new patterns added to the library collection!

I have a new little niece (on my husband's side) who is 3 months old, and I finally got to meet her this weekend.  Having babies around again (especially ones that are "mine" and family to boot!) has gotten me thinking about some baby knits to start working on.  I like working on baby / child projects every now and again - smaller sized garments are usually a pretty quick knit, and provide some quick gratification.... unlike some of the more complex adult garments that might take me months to accomplish in the end.

imageI saw a great pattern for a child's knit jacket in the Twist Collective some months ago, and having little Mackenzie around gave me the inspiration to finally go hunt it down and get started :)

The pattern is "Roo" by Kate Gilbert

I love the idea of a real wool coat and some great handmade wooden buttons for closures.  This little jacket looks like the sort of thing that a little girl could wear both spring and fall, for those barely chilly days.

The pattern calls for a basic worsted wool yarn... like a Briggs and Little or a Cascade type yarn - so nice and relatively large stitches.

I opted for a beautiful Red Cascade 220... think Little Red Riding Hoodie/Jacket!

Now I just need to find buttons or a closure of some sort to go with the design.  I think maybe some Wooden Toggle buttons of some sort paired up with some i-cord loops?  (not exactly as shown, but maybe do able too?)

The other difficult decision is to decide what size to make... the pattern is written in various sizes, so I could probably make the jacket to fit Mackenzie for different stages.  I'm thinking it would be nice for her to be able to wear it for more than one season?  I think I need to consult some baby size experts on this one... lol
