Long time, no Blog

2. August 2013 13:16 by Jobo | 1 Comments

I've been thinking a lot about this blog lately... feeling like I want to start posting again, and like I have things I want to say.  Life has been really busy the last few years, what with becoming a Mom, getting used to having a baby in our lives (maybe the cutest, funniest little person I've ever met, but I digress) and adjusting to being back to my job after a year of Maternity leave.

I've been knitting and spinning, oh don't you worry.  My sanity has depended on it many times.  In the early dark days/nights (who knows which were which, honestly) I clung to my knitting as my "Me" time.  The days where there was absolutely no personal time were pretty challenging.  There were days where no showers or personal grooming were accomplished.  There were days where much crying and/or napping were needed.  There were also days where I knit so I wouldn't yell at people.

The creativeness has always been there... even through such utterly life changing events as starting a family and adjusting to your entire world turning on it's ear.

Don't get me wrong - I've loved all of it!

It just means that I'm different now :)  So this blog will likely be a little bit different now too.  I'm working out what all that will mean.... but know this:  There will be yarn.  There will be bad jokes, likely about my kid or some form of parenting sillyness.  There will be spinning and drooling over fiber and patterns.  I'm not sure what it will look like, but I'm hoping to find a way to make blogging work again :)

Welcome back, I've missed you <3

Handspun Alpaca Mittens for Romy.

30. August 2012 08:48 by Jobo | 0 Comments

Years ago when I started spinning. I bought a 2 ounce braid of gold/yellow/red alpaca fiber from Fleece Artist.  I figured since I was just learning, it was ok to buy some small braids and just learn on them.  The finished yarn reminds me a bit of a roll of Life Savers candy. or maybe a bowl of Froot Loops?

I spun a small skein of Navajo 3-ply yarn and gave it to my Mom to knit something with.

Well, she decided to make a little pair of mittens and hold onto them until someday when a little grandkid came along. well BINGO! There IS a cute little grandkid, and now she is going to have warm little fingers all winter. They are still a little bit too big, but that's ok.

They're woolly and warm, and knit by her Grandma, and that's all that matters Smile

Lily of the Valley. sneak peek for C!

27. August 2012 22:35 by Jobo | 0 Comments

I've been puttering away on the knitting. starting some new things, and completing a few, but I've been a little lazy about photographing everything!  Well a friend finally called me out on it and asked if I was ever going to give her a peek of that shawl I was working on. since she had heard about it and wondered what it was like.

This one is full of Nupps!  It's a Nupp fest really - as are all of the traditional Estonian Lily of the Valley patterns.  It's basically a chain of YOs to make the stem of the flower, and the nupps are the flowers.

Lilies yarn

So. I did a pseudo block so I can show the progress so far Smile

The baby alpaca yarn is soft and light, and though the color is difficult to photograph, I'm quite pleased with the results so far.

You can't really tell from these pics, but I'm about halfway there.  I plan on using up the two skeins of this that were in my stash, and I've knit up the majority of the first skein.  I'm relying on my kitchen scale and a little luck to eyeball how far I can go with the center panel and still have enough left to do a nice sized border.  I still have to decide on what kind of border too Smile

So C:  What do you think?  lol
